Big Blue Giant Geo Review
51% Egyptian Cotton, 37% Viscose, 12% Flax; 425 gsm
So it was incredibly lucky to test this beauty about 6 months ago. Sorry it took me so long to post a review and hopefully I've remembered everything! xx
I have to admit I was terrified of the first few things I saw about this beauty. 425 gsm! I usually tend towards thinner wraps with few exceptions so hesitated to think what this would be like, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Big Blue arrived washed and ready to wrap. At first touch it was sooo soft and becoming somewhat floppy. It was certainly dense but seemed to have a nice bit of give as well.
It's visual was not something to overlook either. This wrap was comprised of 2 different blue threads on white which gave the wrap a bit of depth. It was one of those wraps that I could have just looked at for ages. The weave was so interesting and even from far away it had that wonderful Woven Wings timelessness and class that has made me cherish the brand.
I first tried it in a ruck. It took a bit of work to get perfect, but damn, was it comfortable. I didn't for a second feel the 30 lbs of toddler! It it one of those wraps that would be perfect for a nice long walk. It was thick but breathable and so forgiving on the shoulders it was unreal. Solid as a rock for sure and totally toddler-worthy!
I later tried my favorite double hammock with a candy cane chest belt. Again, once tied, this wrap was comfortable and unmovable. I did find it was quite grippy (grippier than I usually enjoy) and I found tightening difficult. I've learned through wrapping that I generally have weak upper arms so would not be surprised if others really enjoyed the level of grip.
My husband really grew to love big blue. He's not really a wrapper but until recently wore our daughter for walk in a ruck that I would tie on him. He has a metal plate in his shoulder so has become very picky about what wraps he'll allow us to use with him. Big blue was a clear favourite while he was here and provided the cushion Paul wanted for his shoulder.
We were sad to say goodbye to this beauty but glad to see it's made it's way to release. I don't think it will be a wrap for everyone but it's got some great qualities and not like anything else I've ever tried (plus it's an amazing blanket for mom when babe is in bed). I'm not entirely sure if the wrap produced is exactly like the tester we had, but think those that enjoy dense/grippy wraps that come into their own with some elbow grease to break them in will not be disappointed.
